What is Best Practices?
“Best Practices” are activities created and completed by a chapter to further specific goals identified by the board of directors of Beta Alpha Psi (the “Board of Directors”) and by Deloitte. These activities exemplify the spirit and purpose of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) and, if applicable, allow other chapters to emulate those activities.
Deloitte has been the proud sponsor of the Best Practices program since 2001. The program encourages students to develop and execute programs that promote awareness and student involvement in projects exemplifying values shared by BAP and Deloitte. Each year, the BAP President Elect and the Deloitte Professional Partners member select topics to capture and promote their organizations’ shared values. Topic examples include ethics, corporate responsibility, diversity, increasing awareness of the accounting profession, skills-based volunteerism, and globalization. To date, there have been more than 2,600 individual and team presentations at the regional and national levels and more than $400,000 awarded to BAP chapters to support chapter operations, scholarships, and the continuation of Best Practices projects.

If you are looking for leadership opportunities and ways to improve your presentation skills, this is the perfect place for you to get more exposure within and outside BAP! Joining the Best Practices Committee will give you the chance to be a part of the planning, organizing, and competing process of the Best Practices Competition.
USC Beta Alpha Psi joined this program for the first time last year. Although it was our first time, we successfully competed at both Regional and National Competition. We won 1st place at Regional and 2nd place at National Competition on International Impact topic. Thank you Russell Yue, Yu Chen and the members of Best Practices Committee for your effort!
The Best Practices competition comprises a two- or three-step competitive process:
1. Chapters submit an abstract in January, and the abstract is approved.
2. Chapters make a presentation at their regional meeting (RM) in the Spring. Winning chapters (of first, second, and third places) receive verbal recognition and a monetary award.
3. First place teams present at BAP’s annual meeting in the Summer. Winning chapters at the annual meeting earn verbal recognition and additional monetary awards.

The Best is Yet to Be:
How Our Chapter Developed Its Objectives for the 2016-2017 Academic Year: An important part of leadership comes from developing a vision for how the chapter seeks to build on its past and prepare for its future. Using 2015-2016 as the base year, how were current year [2016-2017] objectives developed? Moreover, what current-year actions [‘inputs’] contributed to accomplishing these objectives. Further, what results [‘outputs’] are expected to provide feedback [or have provided feedback] regarding the impact on your chapter. Measurability of results [‘outputs’] enhances your assessment of what did or did not work. Examples of measurability could include changes in chapter membership demographics over time, changes in membership size over time, interactions among competitor student groups in addition to countless others.
Building a Multi-Cultural Coalition Among Financial Information Professionals-In-Training at Our School. There are numerous ‘groups’ or constituencies among financial information students at your school. Share what your chapter did to strengthen its outreach into various underrepresented student constituencies in your environment. Identify those underrepresented constituencies in your environment. Do not limit your thinking to the most obvious constituencies. This outreach to underrepresented constituencies could extend to high school students who will become the next generation of collegiate financial information students.
Leadership Extends Beyond the Academic Disciplines Pursued by Our Members and the Student Organizations to Which Members Belong. How has your chapter provided service in 2016-2017 to your off-campus and/or university communities? What impact has been achieved to date? How has your chapter’s membership served in leadership roles within these off-campus and/or university communities? What portion of your chapter was involved in this service?
